Skin-Care Tips

A four-in-one exfoliator gives my skin a new lease on life

II’m not thrill-seeking, but there is something about multitasking that makes me get drunk: I can reply to an email and blow-dry my hair at the same time. There is nothing like it.

As I get older, I prefer to have a more economical structure in most of my routines, especially when looking after my skin – and I recently learned that this approach is fully dermatologist-approved.

“When it comes to skin care, bigger is not necessarily better,” says Joshua Zeichner, MD, assistant professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. “In fact, I find that a simple skin care regimen is easier to follow and may be more effective than multi-step regimens.” (See? I understand something.)

To improve my multitasking complexion, I gave up my illusion of a closet filled with everything needed for 10-step skincare (anyway, I live in a tiny apartment in Brooklyn, so space is limited) and focused instead. on just one product in addition to the cleansing and moisturizing cream: Chantecaille Phytoactive Cleansing and Exfoliating Solution

The herbal remedy cleanses, smoothes, exfoliates, moisturizes, mattifies and more, so I tried it for several weeks to see if I found my new all-in-one skincare product. Spoiler: I did.

Keep reading to find out how this four-in-one exfoliator works its magic of multitasking.

Let’s talk about the ingredients

As Dr. Zeichner said, simplifying your daily routine is a good idea, but it means you need to better match the ingredients from which to choose. One of its must-haves for any rationalized routine is a collagen-stimulating nighttime product such as retinol, hydroxy acids, peptides, or other herbal ingredients.

“Skin cell turnover and collagen production are at their maximum when we sleep, so I recommend enhancing our natural activity with your evening skincare,” he says. It’s good for me that Chantecaille solution contains 10 percent AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) that help exfoliate and remove dead skin cells.

In addition to AHA, the exfoliating solution also contains PHA and BHA (other forms of hydroxy acids) from ingredients such as black willow bark extract to improve complexion. yeah shine. “Think of willow bark extract as a naturally occurring beta-hydroxy acid,” says Dr. Zeichner. “It helps exfoliate dead cells to even out skin tone. It helps remove excess oil from pores to reduce shine and may be beneficial for people with acne-prone skin. Are these giant pores around my nose? Haven’t seen them for weeks.

“Polyhydroxy acids (PHA) have the same exfoliating and rejuvenating properties as alpha and beta hydroxy acids, but are much more gentle on the skin,” says Dr. Zeichner. “Due to its large chemical structure, it does not penetrate the skin in the same way. As a result, it can be used on all skin types, including sensitive skin. ” (It’s me.)

So, in addition to their glow-inducing properties, these delicate plants are the reason I was able to exfoliate a few (yes, a few!) Once a week and didn’t come close to turning into a tomato, even though I am super sensitive. leather (more on this later.)

My complexion approves

I won’t lie to you all, exfoliation – especially with AHA and BHA – made me nervous. After too many bright reds and searing experiences with other products, I basically gave up toning and exfoliation altogether, leaving a few gaping holes in my daily routine that my dull complexion begged me to fill.

Fortunately, it was very not the case with the Chantecaille solution. The moisturizing, soothing properties of PHA, blended with the powers of AHA and BHA, allowed the product to be absorbed very gently into my skin without causing any redness or sensitivity.

Running my hand all over my face, I found lot dirt, makeup and oils on my cotton pad that I thought had been washed away with my cleanser (I was wrong) and the results of this deep cleaning were visible on my recently radiant, non-greasy complexion.

But there is one more thing: after a few weeks of using the exfoliating solution, the annoying dry flakes that usually accumulate around the nose and upper lip are completely MIA. And I didn’t have to reapply my moisturizer on my desk in the middle of the day. one day ever since I included this product in my minimum lineup. This is what I call multitasking, addictive victory.
