Healthy hair and a healthy scalp go hand in hand. You cannot have one without the other, and it is important to treat both with the proper love and care. “Your scalp is like a farm bed: if you want to grow plants or fruits, you have to make sure you have enough nutrients and water, and the scalp is the same. You have to give it all the elements it needs to grow healthy hair, ”says Adelina Kikam, MD, @BrownSkinDerm Certified Dermatologist. And her own routine that she told us in the last episode Dear Derm!is proof that you can keep your entire ecosystem healthy without breaking the bank.

Earlier this year, Dr. Kikam dyed her hair naturally and relies on a couple of under $ 20 products (plus a few key lifestyle tips) to keep it going. “My hair is very prone to drying out, which is typical for many people with afro hair, ”says Dr. Kikam. Therefore, air conditioning is key. “IThis is how I restore moisture to the hair, and the ability to restore moisture is very important when you have curly, curly hair. I believe in deep conditioning, ”she says.

Each week, she treats the hair to its own deep state with Camille Rose Algae Renew Deep Conditioner ($ 19) is infused with vitamin algae to strengthen strands and mango oil to saturate and retain moisture. “I put it on my hair, then add warmth with a heat cap and then rinse it off and it feels so good – my hair feels so moisturized, ”says Dr. Kikam. She is also a fan of the Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque ($ 12).

And, of course, the conditioning process doesn’t stop at her strands. She moisturizes the scalp with LivSo Moisturizing Lotion ($ 18), light and rich in ceramides, coconut oil and willow bark extract, which fill the skin with moisture and also strengthen its barrier and ultimately strengthen the hair.
