Stop treating acne and deal with your whole face

WEvery time a large, painful pimple appears, the simplest solution is to stick it on and hope for the best. But while spot treatments can be helpful for getting rid of these individual pimples, according to dermatologists, if you rely on them as your own. Only acne solution, you ignore the root of the problem.

“People discover a treat and it is completely out of the ordinary – you want to prevent it,” Dennis Gross, M.D. certified dermatologist and founder Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare, previously said Well + Good. “Treating blemishes is good, but you’ve already lost the battle.”

Cause? When you do pinpoint treatments, you are essentially targeting only one clogged pore and completely ignore the rest of the pores that might clog in the future. “Think of your face as thousands of tubes connecting sebaceous glands to the surface of your skin. In people prone to acne, all of these pipes are somewhat clogged, ”says Joshua Zeichner, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist from New York. “We have no way of predicting which ones will clog up enough to cause acne.”

While pinpoint treatments can help get rid of preexisting acne, it does nothing to eliminate any pimples you already have, and it does nothing to prevent future breakouts. “The best way to get rid of acne is to prevent everything so that these pipes are not completely blocked, ”says Dr. Zeichner.

While it’s perfectly okay to take a spot remedy with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid when you’re stuck, it’s best to get ahead of the problem and develop a routine that will keep acne at bay. before that happens. This way you will never get stuck playing catch-up. “It’s important to regularly apply something all over your face, at least in the areas where you are prone to acne in the first place – this is the key point,” says Dr. Gross. “Treating the whole face means you can prevent acne from occurring, rather than just treating the acne you already have,” adds Dr. Zeichner.

If you have acne-prone skin, this means that acne-preventing ingredients will become part of your daily routine, even if you not have any visible pimples on your face. A good cleanser will keep your skin free of the impurities and dirt that cause acne; AHA and BHA gently exfoliate the surface of your face, getting rid of dead skin cells that clog pores; and the retinol night serum stimulates cellular metabolism so that these dead skin cells truly disappear forever. These ingredients will help stop pimples before they start, which means that if they does Either way, whatever spot treatment you use will be tuned for its ultimate success.
